Urdu literature, especially its modern form of short stories (افسانہ), has played a significant role in reflecting the various socio-cultural shifts in Pakistan. Contemporary Urdu fiction stands as a critical tool for understanding the evolving dynamics of society, capturing the multifaceted layers of human experience against the backdrop of historical, political, and economic changes. This paper explores how contemporary Urdu short stories encapsulate these transformations, analyzing the works of prominent authors. It investigates the role of fiction in highlighting social issues such as gender roles, identity, religious tensions, and the struggles of marginalized communities. Through a comprehensive review of selected short stories, this study sheds light on the narrative techniques employed by writers to portray societal changes, offering a unique lens through which to examine the interplay between literature and social transformation in Pakistan.
