Abstract

Mir Taqi Mir, one of the most distinguished poets in the classical Urdu tradition, is often considered the pioneer in expressing nuanced emotions and complex philosophical themes in his poetry. His work is widely recognized for its depth in exploring the human experience, particularly love, which occupies a central position in his poetic universe. This paper delves into the philosophy of love in Mir’s poetry, analyzing how he intertwines the concepts of divine love, human affection, and self-exploration. By contextualizing his work within the socio-political and cultural landscapes of his time, this article aims to highlight how Mir’s philosophy of love reflects both his personal struggles and the broader intellectual currents of 18th-century India. Additionally, the paper explores the mystical and Sufi elements in his work, positioning Mir’s poetic expression as a powerful medium for transcending the boundaries between the physical and spiritual realms of love.
