Abstract

The intricate relationship between literature and the environment has long been a subject of study, with ecology becoming a central theme in various literary traditions. In Urdu literature, the depiction of natural landscapes and environmental concerns has evolved, reflecting cultural, social, and ecological shifts. This article explores how the natural environment is portrayed in classical and modern Urdu literature, with a focus on poetry and prose. It examines the symbolic use of landscapes, the influence of environmental changes on literary expressions, and the role of Urdu writers in raising ecological awareness. By analyzing works from early Urdu poets to contemporary writers, this study aims to highlight the interplay between nature and literary expression, illustrating how ecological themes are interwoven into the fabric of literary traditions. The article also investigates the ways in which nature is used as both a reflection of human emotion and a commentary on the socio-political landscape of Pakistan.
